How do I create a new city?
First thing to do before creating a new city is to check that the city has not already been created. You can accomplish this by using the keyword search or by using the city search by location feature.
In order to create a new city simply click on the Add a city button in the "Cities" menu on the right hand side of any Local Thoughts page. You will be prompted for the name of the city as well as the province/state and country information. Please only create new cities on Local Thoughts for real cities and towns. It is important that the city information in Local Thoughts remains accurate and useful. As a result, cities which do not exist in the real world will be removed.
How do I create a new topic?
Before adding a new topic take a few minutes to ensure that a topic with the same or very similar content does not already exist. You can do this by keyword search or your new topic is specific to a geographical location such as a city, province/state or country you can also use the topic search by location feature.
A new topic can be created by clicking on the Add a topic button in the "Topics" menu on the right hand side of every Local Thoughts page. If the topic you wish to create is specific to a certain city you should add the topic via the "Add topic" tab on the top of every city page.
Please be as specific as possible when creating your new topic. For example if the topic is going to be about politics in the U.S. you should simply name the topic "Politics" and select "United States" for the country. Local Thoughts will look after displaying the topic name as "Politics in the United States".
How do I add a new blog (feed)?
Local Thoughts gets the content from each blog by periodically downloading the blog's feed. Feeds can be in either of the RSS or Atom formats. Not all websites offer feeds. You can determine if a site offers a feed by looking for the orange syndication logo on the right side of the address bar in your web browser.
Adding a new feed to a topic or city is easy, just look for the "Add feed" tab at the top of each topic and city page. You will be prompted for a name for the feed as well as the feed's address. If you enter the website's main address instead of a feed address, Local Thoughts will try to find the feed address inside the site's main page.
